CARE* Level 1 Orientation

Our General Orientation is an interactive session (using a "scavenger hunt" approach) that lasts approximately 90 minutes. Specifically, the General Orientation session
includes:
- an introduction to AAF and our mission
- a facility tour
- an overview of AAF volunteer opportunities
- meeting other AAF volunteers
- a discussion and demonstration of AAF’s integrated approach to animal care and cleaning protocols for animal wellness
Note: We are not able to serve lunch or refreshments during General Orientation. Also, participants in the General Orientation session will be, for the most part, standing or walking throughout. Please contact us in advance if you need special accommodations as a person with a disability or special needs.
Orientations for New Volunteers sessions are Saturdays 11:30 am- 1 pm. There are a limited number of Saturdays when General Orientation sessions are not conducted. The online system of registering for General Orientations will indicate when a General Orientation is not being held (i.e., check the top of the online registration page for dates when General Orientation will not be held).
CARE* Level 2 Training

This training class is for AAF volunteers who have completed Level 1/General Orientation-CARE program (Dogs) and who want to learn more about working with AAF's dogs.
This 2-hour indoor program covers: kennel safety procedures, canine body language, clicker training exercises to reduce stress in dogs and improve adoptability, cleaning for wellness protocols, enrichment & Kong preparation, etc. Participants must be an AAF volunteer 15 years of age or older.
Please note that the time for this class is 11 am -1 pm. (So, this class starts EARLIER than LEVEL 1/General Orientation).
CARE* Level 3 Training

This training class is for AAF volunteers who have completed Level 2-CARE program (Dogs) and who want to be able to come to AAF to walk dogs and/or take dogs outside for exercise (on their own schedule and/or outside times of the Walk-A-Hound program).
In this 3- hour session volunteers will: develop leash skills for walking dogs, review various leash and harnesses, discuss and observe canine play behavior and body language, learn about and work with AAF dogs in the dog agility play yards, and refine skills from Level 2. This program is especially well-suited for AAF volunteers who want to regularly volunteer exercising AAF dogs (i.e., 1-2 hours/week) although this is not a requirement.
